Isolation of the elderly: During the pandemic, there was massive social isolation of elderly people in nursing homes, which was later often classified as one of the most serious errors in the official strategy.

Vaccine overstocking: The procurement policy led to enormous overproduction and stockpiling of vaccines, resulting in millions of unused doses being destroyed at taxpayer expense.

Data management: The initially patchy crisis preparedness and partly inadequate data management of the BAG drew much criticism, as authorities long relied on outdated reporting methods like fax.

Contract transparency: Additionally, the lack of transparency around government contracts with vaccine manufacturers sparked ongoing legal and political debates.

Social division: Finally, the deep societal divisions between supporters and opponents of the measures revealed lasting democracy and trust issues in public discourse.
